Degree show update: sustainable fabrics//natural dyes
So! After recieving the Gillian Purvis final year award, I have been spending my money nicely(and easily)on lots of sustainable fabrics. I have especially enjoyed using bamboo silk, bamboo jersey, hemp sweatshirt, hemp cotton poplin, organic cottons and soy jersey. I will post photos of these soon.
I have also brought a huge range of natural dyes and I am just in the process of experimenting with these, as you can see in my 'In the print room' post! However I am finding it difficult to achieve any blue or green hues with the natural dyes... The colours are so vivid though and its a really exciting process. I hope to use these fabrics and dyes as much as possible in my final samples, but if really necessary I will use the dyrect or procion dyes to obtain the colours that are proving tricky...
